NASU lament

BENIN CITY—THE Non-academic Staff Union
of Educational and Associated Institutions
has raised alarm over what it described as

the deplorable condition of public libraries in
the 36 states of the country.
The
union declared this at its 2016 1st Regular
Meeting of WAEC/Libraries and other Trade
Group Council, in Benin City, pointing out
that government libraries across the 36
states of the federation have continued to
grapple with dilapidated structures, obsolete
books and equipment due to years of
neglect.
Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy
National President of NASU, Mr. Michael
Adegoke, stressed that the current trend
may lead to a “total collapse” of library
system in Nigeria.
He, therefore, called for proper funding by
all tiers of government, including the
intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust
Fund, for the running of these libraries.
