36 soldiers escape death

Nigerian troops enroute Azare on a special
operation were involved in an auto crash
yesterday at Gaya, Jahun federal highway

that left 36 of them seriously injured.
Gaya, 65km south of Kano is a strategic
town that link Maiduguri via Dutse, and
Jahum—Katagum federal highways.
An eyewitness, Sule Adamu told Vanguard
that the incident occurred along Gaya—
Jahun federal highways at about 7.30 am
when the convoy shortly after missing its
way tried to turn back but was hit by
another vehicle from behind.
Adamu said that “the impact was heavy as
the vehicle conveying 36 officers lost
control and threw off its occupants in
various directions. “we immediately
deployed public spirited individuals to the
scene, and the injured soldiers were taken
to Gaya General hospital, and most of them
are in critical condition.”
But a statement signed by the Kano FRSC
sector Commander, Aminu Umar Jakapa
injured officers have been transferred to
Dutse General hospital said that “it was a
lone road traffic accident involving military
truck with registration number NA 1716 BO5
conveying 36 soldiers”.
The statement further revealed that the
troops were led by Major R.O Aliaze, adding
that no life was lost in the accident.
