Akintola commission new boat

The Superintendent of the Navy Dockyard,
Rear Admiral Adetokunmbo Akintola

yesterday commissioned new boats for the
Navy Sailing Club, Satellite Town, Lagos as
part of activities marking the Muslim holiday
of Ramadan.
Apart from the new sailing boats, the club
also organised a sailing and swimming
competition which saw kids compete in
swimming and kayak.
Speaking at the commissioning of the boats,
Admiral Akintola who was the guest of
honour at the Dockyard Boat Race said the
Navy was ready to support the efforts of
the relevant agencies in realising the dream
of getting Olympic gold medallists in
canoeing and sailing.
Speaking earlier, Commodore of the Navy
Sailing Club, Giwa Daramola said the club
was determined to ensure the two Olympic-
bound Nigerian athletes in watersports were
given the best platform to train and bring
home medals. “We are happy to contribute
to the overall success of Team Nigeria at
the Olympics, and we are ready to provide
the technical and material support towards
achieving that goal,” Daramola said.
Similarly, Chairman of the Navy Dockyard
Boat Race Planning Committee, Ransom
Dokubo said the next edition was bound to
be a thriller as lapses noticed in this first
edition would be checked next year.
