Zamfara blasphemy killings: Eight dead victims are ‘suspects’ – Police say

The Zamfara State Police Command has said that the eight persons who were burnt to death during the crisis that erupted at the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Talata-Mafara, Zamfara State on August 22nd were all suspects in the case. ‎ According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Muhammad Shehu and released yesterday August 31st, the eight persons that died during the crisis were among the suspects that were discovered in the course of police investigation.

Some Muslim students had attacked their colleague who allegedly made blasphemous comments about Prophet Muhammad. While he was been attacked, a man simply identified as Tajudeen came to his rescue and rushed him to the hospital. The angry Muslim youths went to Tajudeen's house and set it on fire killing all occupants of the house.

According to the statement by the police, all those killed ‎in the attack are now suspects. The statement added that one Bashir Adamu from Kuryan Madaro of Kauran Namoda Local Government Area of the state has been arrested and charged to court over his involvement in the crisis.
